Since 2015, Stuttgart-based duo Mondo Sangue is producing music inspired by Italian genre films of the sixties and seventies, carrying this unique legacy into the present.
Composer Christian Bluthardt (aka Bluthardino) and singer Yvy Pop met in the video store Filmgalerie 451 and founded the band project Mondo Sangue, dedicated to the soundtracks of fictional B-movies of the Italian cinema of the 1960s and 1970s. The name is a reference to the exploitation films of the 1960s and 1970s in Italy. In 2016, Mondo Sangue released the first soundtrack to the (fictional) cannibal film L'Isola dei Dannati (The Island of the Damned) as a limited vinyl edition. Musically, the debut album takes its cue from composer Riz Ortolani and his soundtrack to the controversial exploitation film "Naked and Mauled" (original title: "Cannibal Holocaust") by Ruggero Deodato, as well as Nico Fidenco, who, in addition to his score for the 1977 exploitation trilogy "Black Emmanuelle", released another production with leading actress Laura Gemser as "Emmanuelle" under the title "Naked Among Cannibals" (Emanuelle e gli ultimi cannibali).
In 2018, No Place for a Man (Il Villaggio delle Donne - The Village of Women) followed as a tribute to the Italian spaghetti western and its iconographic film score by composers Ennio Morricone, Bruno Nicolai, Stelvio Cipriani and Francesco de Masi. On No Place for a Man, singer and drummer Bela B., among others, makes a cameo appearance on the duet of the same name under the pseudonym Alberto Rocca (a reference to his middle name). The Italian version of the track Sto paese non è niente per te only appeared on the vinyl edition, while a German version Kein Ort für einen Mann appeared on the 2019 re-release of Bela B's album Bingo. The eponymous trailer is voiced by dubbing artist Rainer Brandt.
On 30 October 2020, the 3rd studio album VEGA-5 (Avventure nel Cosmo) was released, the content narration of which is based on science fiction series such as "Star Trek", "Raumpatrouille - Die phantastischen Abenteuer des Raumschiffes Orion" or "Kampfstern Galactica". Musically, VEGA-5 describes the adventures of a spaceship crew (including guest singer Bela B as Space Cowboy) from the late 1960s to the late 1970s.
The fourth studio album Rosso come la Notte, which appeared on 26 November 2021, is dedicated to the style-defining European genre film Giallo, which is considered the cradle of the modern horror film. In the style of works of Italian genre cinema, such as Mario Bava's "Bloody Silk", Sergio Martino's "The Killer of Vienna", Lucio Fulci's "Lizard in a Woman's Skin" and especially Dario Argento's "Profondo Rosso, The Secret of the Black Gloves" and "Suspiria", the soundtrack to the fictional film "Rosso come la Notte", released in 2021, tells the story of taxidermist Barbara, who travels to the German Butcher Museum for an assignment and disappears without a trace. In addition to Bela B, the author and musician Eric Pfeil is also featured on the record this time.
On 14 October 2022 Mondo Sangue released the fifth album Giallo Come Il Giorno with musical collaborations with Eric Pfeil, Dirk von Lowtzow, Rocko Schamoni and Bela B. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
