Bird Problems is a Progressive Metal band from Montréal, Canada started by brothers Michael (Vocals/Guitar) & Daniel "Djank" Smilovitch (Drums) in 2013. They soon invited Joseph Anidjar, whom they knew from school, to play Lead guitar. At some point, they also gained Max Laramee as their bassist. Early on in the band's life, Micheal decided to abandon playing guitar finding that he preferred focusing on being a frontman, and feeling that Joseph contributed enough as a lone guitarist.

They blend together influences of Post-Hardcore & Jazz Fusion. They are inspired by bands such as The Contortionist, TesseracT, & Good Tiger. The band's persona showcases their sense of humor, such as their social media frequently involving jokes, including bird related puns.

The group released their debut album TAR on November 17th, 2017. The album was a concept album about a viral pandemic, a scientist attempting to prove the effects are only aesthetic, and the social ostracization of the infected. There was also an accompanying novella written by Michael, which he spent years working on.

2018 saw the release of their single The Harpist (feat. Blumen), marking a departure from their early Metalcore influence and incorporating more Jazz Fusion aspects.

That trend would continue on, being refined on their 2020 EP Beyond The Nest, released on February 17th. The EP would also see an escalation of the bird theme, with all of the titles and artwork involving bird references. With the release of the second single from it Pigeon Superstition, they began jokingly claiming that they "killed Djent" referring to the track's lively, snappy, & technical guitar riff.

Some time between the two major releases Max Laramee parted ways from the group. They enlisted Matt McCormack as their live bassist after the release of Beyond The Nest, ultimately becoming an official member a year later in 2021.
