Cats and Dogs Lyrics

City High, City High, '99, '99

If you my dog, let me hear you bark
It ain't my fault that the thought that hit your heart
Split you apart, you should've kept your guard
Trying to play it hard last night pulled up in a black Lex in a yard

Talk a lotta Ra Ra, ya gonna murder me
You got the wrong conspiracy, this ain't Kennedy
Jealousy get ya no where wit Lady C
You want a wish you better I dream of genie

Yo, all I left her was a broken heart
And a bunch of lies that I told her
And I bounced before the sheets, were warm
See, I'm the type to love them
And leave them for no reason, I'll be out the door
I don't catch feelings 'cuz my heart is cold

See, I'm that brother that your mother tried to warn you 'bout
But you just had to try it, now you crying on yo mamas couch
You put your heart in the fire, baby, it burned up
So, here's a little story 'bout a lesson you should learn from

It ain't my fault that I'm a dog, I've been in love before
But me, I picked the apple that was rotten to the core
I put the world at her feet she kicked it in the dirt
Now, I won't fall in love 'cuz I'll end up gettin' hurt

It ain't my fault that I'm a dog, I've been in love before
But, the trust I had in women as been thoroughly destroyed
I put the world at her feet she kicked it in the dirt
Now, I won't fall in love, 'cause I'm always gettin' hurt

Well, first of all it ain't my fault that the chick broke your heart
If you was hurt, you should have told me from the start
Instead of sending me the flowers all that candy and the Gucci shit
On the phone for hours gassing me like I'm some groupy bitch

I've been hurt too, but that don't mean I'll hurt you
Never did I burn you, or front you like some do
Now, look at what we've come to it's young and it's stupid
How you blaming all of us for one chick that was rooking

It ain't my fault that you're a dog, I've been in love before
But you, you put the apple that was rotten to the core
I put the world at your feet, you kicked it in the dirt
Now, I won't show no love 'cause I'll end up gettin' hurt

It ain't my fault that you're a dog, I've been in love before
But the trust I have in men has been thoroughly destroyed
I put the world at your feet you kicked it in the dirt
Now, I won't show no love 'cuz I'm always gettin' hurt

I thought you was a angel God sent to me, must have be
But the memory of our love burned like a rub burned
But a thug learned never put your heart in a flame
Be a part of the game, play smart in the game

But I was young back then, dumb back then
But nowadays how I plays not the same
Controlling these games I know it can't do the pain
So don't come cry to me, lie to me

These days these women, just leave you bustin'
Penny less stuck with no benefits
Fucking for Benjamins, suckers like Guinea pigs
Thinking they innocent

If I let them in again, I may never win again
Like the Bulls with no Jordon, apifiniit
So when no love strong enough for me to be steppin' in
Where the booga basement love don't win for no more baby face it

It ain't my fault that I'm a dog, I've been in love before
But me, I picked the apple that was rotten to the core
I put the world at her feet, she kicked it in the dirt
Now, I won't fall in love 'cuz I'll end up gettin' hurt

It ain't my fault that I'm a dog, I've been in love before
But, the trust I had in women as been thoroughly destroyed
I put the world at her feet, she kicked it in the dirt
Now, I won't fall in love, 'cause I'm always gettin' hurt

It ain't my fault that you're a dog, I've been in love before
But you, you put the apple that was rotten to the core
I put the world at your feet, you kicked it in the dirt
Now, I won't show no love 'cause I'll end up gettin' hurt

It ain't my fault that you're a dog, I've been in love before
But the trust I have in men has been thoroughly destroyed
I put the world at your feet, you kicked it in the dirt
Now, I won't show no love 'cuz I'm always gettin' hurt

City High is an American R&B/hip hop trio consisting of rappers/singers Ryan Toby, Robbie Pardlo and Claudette Ortiz. Originally signed to Wyclef Jean's Booga Basement imprint as a duo, the group became a trio when Jean realized that they resembled another group on his roster, The Product G&B, too much. Ortiz was then added to the group after contributing her vocals to the group's first big hit, What Would You Do from the Life soundtrack in 1999. City High drew comparisons to their mentor's supergroup, The Fugees for two main reasons: the first being that the make-up of the band was two male members and a superstar female member, and also the fact that the members both sang and rapped. Unlike The Fugees, however, City High had more of an R&B slant.

In 2001, "What Would You Do?" was released as part of the band's eponymous debut to radio with a new mix that interpolated Dr. Dre's The Next Episode into the bridge. The song, a story seen from different perspectives about a young woman who becomes a stripper to feed her child, became a U.S. Pop #8 and R&B #13 hit. The band's follow-up single, Caramel, found Ortiz singing lead and Pardlo on the bridge. In the original version, there is also a section where Ortiz sings in Spanish. For radio release, the song was remixed to include the rapper Eve. "Caramel" was a U.S. Pop #18 and R&B #9 hit. The remix was done by Trackmasters. The final single from the group's debut was City High Anthem, which failed to make a big impact on urban and top 40 markets. Once again, however, a remix was released, featuring rapper Styles P.

In early 2002, City High shot several mini music video commercials for MTV based on their own songs promoting the 11th season of The Real World set in Chicago.

Their debut self-titled album sold millions and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2003. City High members Ryan Toby and Claudette Ortiz got married on October 14, 2004.

City High disbanded in 2003. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
