Big Takeover 66-30th Anniversary issue- "a stylistic grab-bag, encompassing bluesy rock, garage, country, surf and Hawaiian music, with a few intriguing
covers...while the playing is casual, loose and shambolic, it also
oozes rock 'n' roll.If their live show is "very popular with walk-ins", then this album perfectly captures the experience of one of those aimless, bleary-eyed bar-hoppers."-Mark Suppanz

DOLLAR BIN donaldkeesing@yahoo.com 347-314-1997
Dollar Bin are a band of veteran D.C. and Baltimore musicians based in both Baltimore and New York. Our set covers lot of musical territory. Garage psychedelia, pub rock, alt country, surf and 70’s style American punk. Gigged solidly in DC & Baltimore from 2008-2010 are on hiatus, while Don resides in Athens, GA. They have established a core following and have a lot of national (and international exposure)

And last.fm (a site I’ve really come to like)

We have an acoustic alter ego, Dogs Among the Bins (in honor of being 2/3 of Baltimore Irish band Dogs Among the Bushes,) which was a hit when we played a Haiti Benefit at Jackie's Back Room

We have a live CD, released Feb 2010 “Hug Me Or I Shall Destroy You”. Live suits us well. We are very extemporaneous and don’t ever play the same song the same way twice. Sort of like a jam band, but with a bar band vibe. We are very popular with walk-ins.
We have an interesting resume.
Randy Austin our lead guitarist and lap steel player (we have a very popular lap steel section in our set) was in the first punk band to gig in D.C. at The Keg in 1976, Overkill (a name much used since). He has played in the early punk band Project O, alt country band The Slim Jims (featuring local legend Brian McGuire), The critically acclaimed power pop band The Graverobbers with Karl Straub, an excellent songwriter who is routinely nominated for and has won the best songwriter category at the WAMMYs. He had a popular surf band The Throwbacks. He currently also plays in an acoustic combo The Go-Pills (featuring ukulele). He also was the guitarist for the D.C. comedy club The Improv. He’s played with local legends Bob Guernsey (of Claude Jones- big 70’s band) and J.P. McDermott, whose star is rising.
C.B. Heinemann our drummer drummed with local icon Martha Hull and pedal steel master Dave Van Allen (currently in the very successful country band Last Train Home) in The Steady Jobs in the mid 80s. He is best known as a string player, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin and banjo. He’s earned quite a reputation solo and with his bands Dogs Among the Bushes and The Hedgerows and often tours Europe. The focus is Celtic music, but the influences expressed are much broader. We have performed acoustic, swapping songs and are easily able to do so. All of us have been playing acoustic shows for many years.
Donald Keesing, lead vocals and rhythm guitar has established a good reputation in Washington. His roots are in the punk scene with the band White Zombies (DC, 1982). He has released recordings of Rain Crow a psychedelic band with folk and grunge leanings active in 1988 and 1989. They did well on the local club circuit. In 2000 he released a critically acclaimed solo album (featuring Randy) “The Aztec Heart Treatment”.
Bob Young, bass also plays with Dogs Among the Bushes and is esteemed for his innovative bass runs. A rarity in Celtic music. He played for over a decade with the very popular D.C. pop punk band Tru Fax and The Insaniacs. Played with Martha Hull and Keith Campbell (of Black Market Baby- punk icons) in D.Ceats. Him and C.B. had a band (in the ballpark of The Incredible String Band) called The Ancient Orphic Mystery Band, remembered fondly in folk circles in the late 70s.
We are well connected and can easily put together a good bill and versatile enough to play acoustic venues or curve our set to oldies or country. We are not excessively loud. We are old professionals and have an excellent sense of how long we’ve been on stage. If you ask for 20 minutes, that’s what you get, 45 minutes or 2/3 sets likewise.
Thank you for your interest! Attached are some reviews.

22. $Dollar Bin$...Sleepwalk...from their Hug Me Or I Shall Destroy You CD....Washington DC old farts who play for fun!!! Which is the way it should be!
From DC Rocks May 7, 2009 -“Sunday May 10 - 6pm - 9pm - Third Rail Radio at the University of Maryland. 7 Door Sedan, Rustbuckit and Dollar Bin will perform and talk a about the resurgence of familiar faces in the indie/punk/rock and roll DC scene. Third Rail Radio is open to the public and you’re invited. You can also listen on 88.1 FM or wmucradio.com. WMUC 88.1 Studio 3130 South Campus Dining Hall; Third Floor University of Maryland in College Park This mom would like nothing better on Mother’s Day except seeing Wolverine with my awesome son Richard, so we may not make it.
Just last night I saw Dollar Bin and they’re evolving into a great jamming, sliding, rocking force. Last weekend I saw Rustbuckit and they lived up to my expectations that they’re redefining golden years. As for 7 Door Sedan, I try not to miss a show because these guys turn your brain inside out and never the same way twice. All these bands plus a DC scene interview of historic proportions - beats the Sunday blues or sure.”

DC Rocks Oct 17, 2008 “It’s the Velvet Lounge again this week, Friday night. Tru Fax and the Insaniacs, Dollar Bin and Dead Souls from Brooklyn. This writer has had a tough week. Maybe you have too. Go see these bands and you will smile, dance, shout, shake, shimmy, talk, drink… whatever you have to do to recover from a week of work and rain.
I used to think Dollar Bin’s name was derogatory. Then I realized the dollar bin is where you find the surprise gems you didn’t know you needed. These veterans of many DC and Baltimore rock and roll wars will surprise you with their new songs and unexpected covers.”

SNAP POP June 2000 -Donald Keesing- The Aztec Heart Treatment (featuring Randy Austin) “The album is a delightfully demented romp through a musical landscape dotted with psychedelia, country, punk, folk, 60’s garage, slippery saxophone and the-sound-of-things-falling-apart grooves. Keesing’s smoky baritone provides the narrative focus while a cast of thousands- including Honeypole’s Norman van der Sluys and the Black Cat’s Bernie Wandel- provides the backdrop. The texture is dense yet atmospheric; think of the Kingdom of Leisure meets However. “The Aztec Heart Treatment” definately stands up to repeat listenings- just when you think Keesing has done it all, he pulls another rabbit out of his hat. This one’s a winner.” - Marcus Esposito, Snap Pop
