In late 2000, Matt Kesner, Brandon Arnold, and Jason Wright from the band Modular (noise/space rock from Fayetteville) joined up with Kevin Blagg to form Tycho. The band quickly gained recognition in town by playing constantly in town as well as St. Louis and Kansas City and opening for bands such as The Dismemberment Plan, Ted Leo, Mates Of State and Enon. A year later they changed the spelling of their name after discovering there was another Tycho out there.

After Arnold finished grad school in 2001 he moved to Atlanta and Beverly Blann from Fayetteville’s female fronted band, Bellasera, quickly stepped in and the band kept playing. Before Arnold left, the band recorded their first full length in Kansas City, Could Have Been Stars on Clunk Records. The next summer Tyko and drummer, Jason Wright, parted and the band was on hold. At the end of the summer, Blagg, Kesner, and Blann sat down and wrote the music for Transmissions From The Biosphere and the three of them recorded and produced the album on their own. Their friends at Drawing Room Records (Little Rock, AR) quickly agreed to put the record out.

Needing a new drummer, Tyko was lucky to be joined by Alex Daniels. Daniels just moved to Fayetteville from Washington D.C. and brought his impressive musical past with him. He was the drummer for Swiz (Jade Tree) and Severign (Dischord). The final addition to Tyko is Travis Anderson, who adds keyboard textures, samples, and soundscapes to the performance.
