- Michael Brown [1] born Michael David Lookofsky, April 25, 1949 – March 19, 2015) was an american keyboardist and songwriter, most notable for his work with the band The Left Banke. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of violinist and arranger Harry Lookofsky who was a manager and arranger of The Left Banke.
After leaving The Left Banke in 1967, Michael Brown helped form the band, Montage. Although Brown was never an official member of Montage, his presence is unmistakable in its music. The band released one self-titled album in 1969, which included a re-recording of The Left Banke song "Desiree", before Brown left.
Brown's next project was the band Stories. In 1971 Brown and vocalist Ian Lloyd formed Stories. They were introduced by their fathers, Peter Buonconsiglio and Harry Lookofsky, who had worked together as session violinists. A self-titled album and single – "I'm Coming Home" (No. 42, 1972) – followed. The band recorded a second album About Us in (1973)
In 1971, Brown, Cameron, Finn and Martin from The Left Banke reunited briefly to record two songs for the movie Hot Parts. The songs, "Love Songs in the Night" and "Two by Two", were released as a Steve Martin solo single on Buddah Records
Subsequently, he became involved with The Beckies.
In 1994, Michael Brown and his wife Yvonne Vitale produced and released an album titled On This Moment.
Two records were released in 2016 with sessions of Michael Brown and Yvonne Vitale: That's what dreams are made of (2016) and Merry Go Round (2016)
Between 2001 and 2006, Brown hosted a series of recording sessions at his home studio with Ian Lloyd (vocals), Tom Finn (bass guitar/vocals), Jim McAllister (guitar), and Jon Ihle (drums)
Brown briefly reunited with the Left Banke at a New York performance in June 2013
On March 19, 2015, Brown died at age 65 of heart failure in Englewood, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife Yvonne and sons Skylar and Adrian.
