Steve was born in Wales, and subsequently moved to London, initially to study at University College London, (Psychology), but also because of the city's status as one of the world centers of the music business. After graduating, Steve slowly started getting work as a session drummer, playing with a variety of bands and eventually working regularly in London's recording studios on film, TV and commercial sessions, and playing with the BBC Radio Orchestra. Steve first came to wider attention as drummer for late 80's pop band Brother Beyond, firstly as hired hand then as a regular member of the band. Three years of success followed as the band released two platinum albums in the U.K., achieving chart success in a large number of countries, including two Top 20 U.S. hits. On the break up of the band Steve resumed his freelance career, working with a wide range of artists ranging from fusion (Jeff Lorber, Warren Cuccurullo), pop, (Boy George, and others), to World Music, recording the award winning CD "Voyageur" with Zaire's Papa Wemba.
In 1995, Steve started working with Duran Duran and recorded and toured internationally with them during the next five years, including the CD "Pop Trash". Steve's work with Melle Mel and Grandmaster Flash on DD's version of "White Lines", resulted in live work with these founders of rap.
Steve started working with Jeff Beck in 1998, recording the CD "Who Else! and toured for 18 months in the U.S., Japan, South America and Europe.
Apart from work with other artists, Steve has toured extensively as a clinician for Zildjian, in the Far East, S. America and Europe. Steve has also worked as a composer, writing for TV and film and releasing several 12" records, and an EP called "Isometric". Steve can also be heard on the CD by Heather Small. Read more on Last.fm.
