Forest Fires are blazing a trail on the Scottish music scene and set to make 2012 their year. Since forming in Aberdeen in June 2011, the quartet, now based in Edinburgh are delivering an infectious and original alternative sound that is astounding crowds and critics alike.
Vocalist and guitarist Scott Bruce makes a charismatic frontman, but there is more depth to the band than just a bold personality front of stage. Drummer Jack - brother of Scott – continually defies cynics and is clearly in the band by his own merit, proving himself to be one of the most exciting drummers on the scene. Liam Pettitt and Walter Aldaz, complement one another on guitar, proving to be something of an antidote to Scott’s magnetic appeal.
The ambitious Aberdonians clearly savour being sufficiently rocky to appease the rougher crowd, whilst being easy enough on the ear to satisfy those fearing a set full of teen angst and tokenistic anti-establishment. The raw energy displayed by the band is evident, and sets the four-piece apart from others on the circuit.
Influences such as At The Drive In, Muse and Queens of the Stone age are evident in tracks such as Culture Shock and Turn Around Sally, but more experimental work such as Recovery has also been exceptionally well received. Recent high-profile performances across Scotland including Edinburgh’s HMV Picturehouse, Aberdeens Snafu and Box in Glasgow look likely to be the spark Forest Fires needs to ignite a loyal following.
