Lo-fi, bossa nova, pop, samba, rock, hip-hop, jazz, & video game music all clash to form a modern take on Tropicalia, a genre mixing western pop music with Brazilian music – meet The Cosmic Neighborhood.

The brainchild of Mateus Silva, The Cosmic Neighborhood is a collaborative, cross-cultural musical/visual art project centered on the concept of infinite community and finding wonder in the day-to-day, as implied by the band’s name.
Influenced by Mateus’ Afro-Brazilian roots, The Cosmic Neighborhood present their debut album “Fora do Azul” (“Out of the Blue”, in Brazilian Portuguese) on February 5th, 2021. Fora do Azul attempts to translate traditional African and Indigenous Brazilian concepts of humanity, life, and the universe into a contemporary, sparkling and thought-provoking musical conversation that evokes Teo’s expansive and open-minded outlook on life.

Supporting Mateus’ vision lies a varied team of creatives helping to deliver the bright, pulsating world of The Cosmic Neighborhood to life. This ever-evolving artistic collaboration consists of producer/recording engineer and bassist Adam Perkowski of Bellingham, WA, along with Teo’s longtime creative partner, band manager and drummer Joshua Grandbouche, based in Seattle; Happy, Mateus' sister and co-vocalist who will be providing harmonies and lead vocals on future material, and Sam who brings in the keys, horns, and wonderful smiles. (Please note that updated band photos will be available in June). The universe of The Cosmic Neighborhood is brought to life by Stephen Wiley, graphic artist behind Eyes on Fire Art out of West Virginia and Lespuls (Leslie Pulsifer) out of South Africa.

“Fora do Azul” was recorded in its entirety while Teo, Adam, and Josh isolated from others during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. The Cosmic Neighborhood is immensely grateful for the skillful mixing of “Fora do Azul” by PNW-based sound engineer Sam Wesner of McRory Audio, as well as the final mastering by Levi Seitz of Black Belt Mastering in Seattle, WA. New singles and a sophomore album are being worked on currently and new music will be out summer 2023. The band is currently performing live around the PNW. Read more on Last.fm.
