Imperative is, or was, a hard rock band playing in and around central Alberta with one self recorded album, at the time of it's recording Imperative had 4 members, Cam(vocals), Mathijs(guitar/backup vocals), Boe(drums) and Chase(bass),they were later joined by another guitar player, a mysterious individual named Chris.
Imperative was well known in the very diverse Red Deer Alberta music scene for having a solid live performance, either loud and heavy or with a laid back acoustic approach. It was remarked that Imperative was leagues above another local band by the name of Fall to Grace, but still not as good as The Dying Effect. Imperative stayed busy playing a number of diverse venues, colleges, pubs, small concerts, retirement homes, birthday parties and the occasional Tupperware party.
Drama rocked the lives of the Imperative musicians after the release of their CD, Cam was accused of wearing tighty whities as opposed to boxer shorts or boxer briefs which caused a great deal of suspicion and mistrust within the band. Mathijs was caught indulging in his mayonnaise addiction backstage after a show and was admitted to a rehabilitation center where he lost 45 lbs of what he fondly remembers as his "mayonaise-gewicht". Boe had a nervous breakdown after long periods of frustration with Cam's obsession with wearing hoodies, regularly arguing with Mathijs ,who speaks only Dutch and yiddish, over the true value of pi. Chase simply up and disappeared one day when he said he was going to the store to buy a slurpee and a bar of soap, it is rumoured that he ran off to pursue his ambitions of becoming professional wrestler with a mime persona. Chase's absence was covered up by new member Chris' ability to peel a banana with his feet during Imperative's live performances, this was used to distract Imperative's fans from Chase's absense.
Imperative got back on track and played as a band for a few months until two members abruptly quit. Mathijs allegedly wigged out over something and started shouting and swinging his shirt around over his head, because he doesn't speak english the only words anyone understood were the two he looked up in a dutch-english dictionary previously that day, "I quit!", someone eventually threw a grapefruit at Mathijs and he left, never to come back. Chris also departed from Imperative saying the he no longer wanted to play hard rock music and wanted to pursue a future in furniture testing and hand modeling.
Only two members of Imperative remain, Cam and Boe. Imperative is looking for new members to get things going again. For now you will find Cam roaming around looking for a really nice hoodie, and you will find Boe working at a restaurant in Sylvan Lake Alberta where he will hook you up with a really good piece of cake.
Mathijs spent time playing bass for another Red Deer group under the name of singer/songwriter Codi Kreil and now has moved on to another hard rock band by the name of Spice Boys. Chris has also moved on to different things, he spends his time purchasing bulk quantities of mayonnaise to sell back to Mathijs at an inflated price and also giving guitar lessons to the community's senior citizens.
