Box Club are the new young accordion supergroup, featuring the frontline talents of Gary Innes, John Somerville, Mairearad Green and Angus Lyon; backed up by guitarist Mike Bryan, bassist Duncan Lyall and percussionist Martin O'Neill. On the strength of their debut gigs last autumn, Box Club are already being tipped as a major new force on the Scottish scene.

John Somerville has for many years been trying hard to change peoples opinions of the accordion. Originally from the Inverness area, he began playing at the age of ten and spent time during his teenage years eating overcooked stovies while being entertained by the lifeless members of his local accordion and fiddle club. One day he made the discovery that there was a whole other world of music out there and has not looked back since. His influences range from Herbie Hancock to Rage against the machine, Martyn Bennett to Talvin Singh, Bella Fleck to the Battlefield Band, and he can be found out and about in the city of Glasgow where he regularly plays and hangs out with his only friend in the world, his lovely blue accordion. Acts and bands that have felt sorry for him and invited him to play or work with them have included Croft No. Five, David Byrne, Salsa Celtica, Fire in the Bog and John Raes Celtic Feet. Now he has found a truly decent and honest bunch of friends in Box Club and he hopes he and his trusty blue accordion will never feel lonely again

Gary Innes the man who can't keep his purple fella in his pants eh soz case is from the greatest little village in the Highlands called Spean Bridge. To some people they may only know it for it's Little Chef and a statue at the top of the hill but for him it's home. He started to learn the ultimate instrument at the age of 8 and progressed to walking a year later. His influences have been Harold Bishop,Mary Poppins and Jimmy Shand and i think you will agree when you hear him all three influences really come to light. Gary has played with a number of musicians over the years and him and his Wee Purple Fella have travelled far and wide.He really feels he has a home and safety in numbers for the extravagansa that is Boxclub!

Mairearad Green, an accordion player and a piper, two quiet little instruments for a quiet little girl! Privileged to be the only female representative of Box Club. Mairearad is from Achnahaird, Achiltibuie and her music is inspired by good old West Coast influences as well as a diverse range of other styles. Mairearad has performed at many of the major folk festivals with Anna Massie and Jenn Butterworth and they have just released their second album entitled 'The Missing Gift,' one of Mairearad's compositions. Perhaps Box Club will squeeze its way to the top of the charts playing one of these compositions!!

Angus Lyon has finally come to terms with his parents decision to buy him his first accordion and start him on the long strange and wonderful journey that being a professional accordion player is. When growing up his best friend (his accordion) assured him of a level of popularity never scene before, this is one of the many perks that playing such a recognisably cool instrument as the accordion brings. In the last few years he has travelled many places and worked with some of his musical heros such as Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), Paul McCartney, Craig David, Danny Thomson, Maartin Allcock & Troy Donockley. Closer to home he as also recorded two albums with fiddler Ruaridh Campbell. Box club is the start of a new chapter, who knows what will happen next.. Stay tuned! (Going to be a challenge in this band)
