A New York City native, Sylvana Joyce was raised by a single immigrant mother who exposed her to all kinds of experiences from an early age. Shortly after her mother enrolled her in piano lessons, 5-year-old Sylvana began to write her first songs. She grew up listening to opera, classical music, and Romanian folk music, some of which were composed by her late grandfather (a well-known songwriter in Romania). When she attended conservatory at Boston University from 2003-2007 she was later introduced to a wide arrange of rock and blues music, and fell in love with artists such as Jim Morrison, Nina Simone and Bob Dylan. Combining her classical upbringing and her newfound love for Rock, her songwriting evolved into a marriage of New and Old World sonic textures.

In 2010 she founded a band (Sylvana Joyce & The Moment) that have since been touring the Northeast. Sylvana's band has received wide recognition from the indie scene and her music has been featured by MTV, CMJ, Huffington Post, NYTimes East Village, Deli Magazine, SonicBids, OurStage, The Inspired Word, Berklee College of Music, BUToday, Qro Magazine, Shakefist Magazine, Unregular Radio, and more. In November 2012, she released three albums: A full-length debut album with her band (succesfully funded through Kickstarter), For You, Comrade; A separate EP featuring newer material that her band recorded for free as winners of a Boston Battle of the Bands contest, F#@%MeEP!; and a solo album of songs and instrumentals that she recorded on her laptop over the three years prior to her band, "girl in a white faded dress". Sylvana Joyce is in pre-production for her band's next music video and is currently looking for representation.
