There are at least 2 artists with the name Rob Reid.
1) A world folk musician from Chicago, IL active since 2001
2) An author and entrepreneur who wrote Year Zero, created Rhapsody, and appeared on TED talks
1) A voracious listener of traditional music from around the world, Rob Reid draws his influences as much from the Chicago Public Library’s sprawling collection as from the eclectic songwriting approaches of his contemporaries Paul Simon, Andrew Bird, Caetano Veloso, and Antonio Zambujo. Often borrowing from African rhythms, American roots, and Near Eastern folkloric forms, Rob’s songs tell stories about real and fictional characters involved in endeavors such as getting struck by lightning, ice skating in Detroit, and holding up banks.
When performing live, Rob varies his arrangements- alternately borrowing musicians from established Chicago acts (including Ira Ochs, Julius Otto, Rami Atassi, and Julie Jurgens) or using a looping station to layer vocal, guitar, and kitchenware. Though lacking basic driving skills and completely devoid of road sense, Rob’s act has reached venues ranging from neighborhood taverns to farmers markets, restaurants to coffee shops, and charity events to house concerts. His music has also been featured on the air at radio stations such as WLUW, KOPN, and WSUM.
2) The 2nd Rob Reid has a far more illustrious career, which is summarized here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Reid_%28author%29 Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
