After playing lead guitar on two tours and two records with the progressive rock group, The Memorials, Nick Brewer returned home to South Carolina with a new hunger and sound. By The Bull is the culmination of Brewer's expression and experience. To fill out the project, Brewer called good friend, Jonathan Palance, a young talented and gifted drummer who was working the small jazz combo scene in Columbia, SC at the time. The two had a few jam sessions which immediately turned into writing sessions. Brewer's odd, melodic, and aggressive style matched perfectly with Palance's explosive and outside-the-box approach. The chemistry between the two would be the cornerstone for By The Bull's sound. After trying several bass players, none of them quite fit until Matt Buck came in. Buck had been playing with jam bands, running sound at various venues, and slinging drinks on occasion. His solid and energetic playing rounded out the group.

Two months of writing led the group into the Studio in April 2012. Twenty-four hours of tracking later would produce By The Bull's debut album,
"Ghosts & Prophecies", eight diverse and stylized songs ranging from odd-metered and progressive jams to punk/thrash rock to mid-tempo ballads.

"By The Bull's album Ghost & Prophecies seems too mature for a freshman release until you see who's behind it. Each members best project to date (in my humble opinion), By The Bull features veteran Columbia musicians Nick Brewer, Jonathan Palance and Matt Buck. This album features eight well-arranged, progressive rock tunes that span the spectrum of rock yet maintains a very focused sound. Brewer's guitar work seems like that of two guitarists which locks in with both Buck and Palance's backbone."
- Gregg Slattery, Stereofly (May 31, 2012)

By The Bull's live show is highly energetic and injected with spurts of the group's stellar improvisations. Embarking on their first national tour in September 2012, By The Bull is executing with precision. Read more on Last.fm.
