Dj Rob A the son of a rock critic was exposed to music daily. Hearing bands like Hackamore Brick, The Trashmen, The Rolling Stones, The Clash, Burning Spear, James Brown, Miles Davis, Al Green, and The Stooges, music was always around. Records came in the mail via UPS daily. Some of the first rap records Rob heard early on were "The Breaks" "Flash to the Beat" and "Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel" they immediately caught his ear. As years passed Rob A studied the art form and participated in all aspects of the construction of Hip-Hop's movement. "Run-DMC", "BDP", "Cold Crush Brothers", "Biz Markie" "B-Boys" and "Eric B and Rakim" were early favorites. In the summer of 1988 Rob A started a rap radio show on a local radio station in Charlottesville VA, WTJU, the radio station for the University of Virginia, Friday nights 2-6AM. It was the first of only a few rap radio shows at the time at age 14 he was on his way. This is where he started to learn the art of blending and mixing. He listened to other radio DJ's in New York City as in DJ Red Alert and Chuck Chillout's on 98.7 Kiss FM. Dj Rob A did mix tapes in 1989 locally and continued doing them until 1997. As Rap grew and peaked in the years of '88-'90, he continued to be a fan and do shows. Rob A learned beat making in 1990 and would continue this art form, along with his love of Freestyling. He mostly uses the EM SP1200 Sampling Drum Machine and still does today. In 1994 Rob A founded "Missing Link Beat Productions aka M.L.B.P" and made a few demos. One of which was critiqued in the October 1996 issue of"Rap Sheet." M.L.B.P continued to do beats for other groups afterwards. Rob A got down with MF GRIMM and Day by Day Ent. back in 1999 and produced MF GRIMM's song "Time and Space." Dj Rob A was the Compilation Producer for a Hip-Hop Collection released on Time Life Music called "SLAMMIN The Ultimate Rap Hits." Rob A produced most of the debut release"Live your Life" by J Gifted and was Executive Producer on AAROPHAT-"The Sound Volume 2 Vibe Music." Now he is releasing his debut self produced DIY record "DJ ROB A-The New Mortal Sin." With a track produced by MF DOOM on "She Still Got Dimples." The rest of this release is produced by DJ ROB A with him doing all the lyrics and rhymes as well. He has always mostly kept to himself and the underground, while watching the corporate take over of hip hop. Dj Rob A has a new song in 2015 with Masta Ace entitled "Put to Paper" which is available digitally now! More to come 2015 and on so keep ya ears open. Read more on Last.fm.
