The Good Ms. Padgett is the name given Anna Padgett by her Brooklyn, New York preschool music students. The Good Ms. Padgett sings songs and stories that are wise, joyful, and never condescending, enjoyed by children and parents alike.

The Good Ms. Padgett began when preschool teacher and songwriter Anna Padgett first became a mom. Originally a collaboration with musicians from Padgett’s band The Naysayer (www.thenaysayer.com) – Ruth Keating and Matt Sutton (the Malarkies, Ida) and James Baluyut (+/-, Versus) – The Good Ms. Padgett’s self-titled first release (2009) presented 18 original songs that were: “sweet, soothing, and… fun to sing along with.” (theopinionatedparent.com) The album seamlessly incorporates both the parent’s and the child’s experience with songs of advice for diaper-wearers; commiseration for the sleepless nights of teething; celebrations of the wonder of having noses, eyes, and hair; and lullabies. The Good Ms. Padgett fears not to tunefully address the reality of life with a young child, and that includes the doodoo. Smithsonian Folkways artist Elizabeth Mitchell on the first Good Ms. Padgett album: “The Good Ms Padgett is my sister-in-law, Anna Padgett, singing sweetly, hilariously, creatively and truthfully about life with a baby. If you can handle the truth, you will love this album! The melodies are lovely, the songwriting is both tender and clever, and there are many surprises in store.” (www.youaremyflower.org)

For her second full-length, The Good Ms. Padgett Sings The Little Red Hen and Other Stories (March 2012), The Good Ms. Padgett returns to offer her unique musical interpretations of four classic stories: “The Little Red Hen,” “Goldilocks,” “Henny Penny,” and “The Billy Goats Gruff.” Developed as a way to actively engage her preschool and Kindergarten students in the magic and drama of these favorite tales, The Good Ms. Padgett’s story/songs are funny, original, earnest and whimsical.

In recent months The Good Ms. Padgett has been introducing audiences to her stories as part of Elizabeth Mitchell’s East Coast shows, as well as playing some Good Ms. Padgett shows of her own around her current home in Annapolis, Maryland. Padgett’s husband, Miggy Littleton (Ida, White Magic, Blood on the Wall) provides musical accompaniment, while daughter Penelope leads young audiences in movement and manages crowd control.

And don’t you worry about the BAD Ms. Padgett. She is far away, messing up the toys and playing silly tricks, and she is NOT coming over!!!! Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
