David Clynick: I was born in the UK and raised in the city of Leicester. My father was a jazz saxophonist and there were always various musical instruments lying around the house for me to try. Eventually I settled on the piano and later the guitar. I learned music theory initially from textbooks and from the many jazz musicians that often came to our house. Later, I did my music degree with the Open University…So I'm pretty much self-educated, musically speaking. In the mid nineties I formed a five piece indie rock band, and spent the rest of the decade touring around the country. Unfortunately the bands' days were numbered and just as we were on the verge of greatness they came to a sudden halt, when the lead singer tragically died.

I spent the next few years composing music in various different styles, and sent out a lot of tapes to TV production and videogame companies. Rare happened to get hold of one of these tapes in 1999 and offered me a position as co-composer on the original Perfect Dark.
