Maya Fridman (born November 7, 1989 in Moscow) is a Russian cellist, singer and composer. She lives and works in the Netherlands.
She has been playing the cello since she was six. Her search for new music and experiments took her to Amsterdam, where she graduated cum laude from the Conservatory in 2016. Fridman is a master cello player who can do everything and plays everything: classical, pop, (gothic) rock, folk, jazz, new music or flamenco. Thanks to her versatility and fiery, emotional way of playing, there are more and more composers who wrote pieces especially for her.

Fridman plays in various ensembles and collaborations, including a duo with Gagi Petrovic (cello, live electronics and two voices), jazz trio Aeon Trio, various projects with singer-songwriter Jyoti Verhoeff and as a guest musician with the German folk band Faun.

Fridman has collaborated with various musicians and companies, including Maarten van Veen, Merel Vercammen, Faun, Farid Sheek, Asko❘Schönberg and the Noord Nederlands Toneel.

She has performed at various major stages and festivals, including the Royal Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, TivoliVredenburg, Concertgebouw De Vereeniging, Into The Great Wide Open and the Grachtenfestival. In the 2020-2021 season Maya Fridman was 'Artist in Residence' at TivoliVredenburg. Since 2020 Maya Fridman has formed Trio Dareyn with Emine Bostanci (kemenche) and Jacobus Thiele (percussion). Dareyn performed at the Grachtenfestival and the Festival Europäische Kirchenmusik.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Maya Fridman has been organizing benefit concerts for Ukraine. For example, in March 2022, together with the Ukrainian pianist Anna Fedorova, she was one of the initiators of the Concert for Peace in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Fridman is Artist & Repertoire Manager at record label TRPTK.

She released three albums in 2017 and 2018 on the Utrecht label TRPTK: The Invisible Link with work by Alfred Schnittke, Pēteris Vasks and Arvo Pärt; Red Velvet with pieces by Karen Tanaka, Gaspar Cassadó and Kaveh Vares, among others, who wrote the title piece especially for Fridman; and most recently The Fiery Angel, an arrangement of Profokiev's opera of the same name for cello and piano.

For her residency at Gaudeamus, Fridman collaborates with composer Maxim Shalygin, which has resulted in a new piece for solo cello: Canti d'inizio e fine. A monumental cycle of 7 songs for cello (and voice) with the theme birth, life and death. Together with the Japanese pianist, visual artist, composer and director Tomoko Mukaiyama, Fridman made a musical theatrical arrangement of Alfred Schnittke's Peer Gynt for cello and piano.
