Crypts of Despair is a death metal band from Kaunas, Lithuania, formed in February 2009. Emerging from the Baltic underground scene, the band was founded by musicians with ties to other local extreme metal acts, including Luctus, Nahash, and Svartthron. The initial lineup featured Dovydas Auglys (vocals, guitar), Jonas Kanevičius (vocals, bass), and Simonas Krasauskas (drums). Their shared passion for raw, aggressive death metal laid the foundation for a sound that would evolve over the years. The band’s name reflects their thematic focus on death, misanthropy, suffering, and darkness, drawing inspiration from the bleak and oppressive atmosphere of classic death metal.
