His metoric rise to being known in the world Darkstep scene could be made in to a heartwarming Disney movie! I’m talking, of course, about Wiccan Bad boy, Witchstep (dubstep with mystical and occult themes) Artist Luna 13. If you haven’t noticed from my previous sentence, Jade Luna is a Witch. Approximately 1 year ago, he modestly released: Feeling Like My Old Sunny Self Again. Since then, Jade Luna has been living admist a whirlwind of interviews, guest mixes, and parties, rubbing shoulders with the Dubstep elite. After taking some time to work on his production, and signing on with Morbit Records (home to Bloody Poem, Have A Cow and Sir Morbit), Luna 13 returns to us with his second release, “Resurrection In Black”. This 13-track wonder showcases Luna 13’s skill as a multiple-sub-genre producer, and combines his unique, glitch-heavy bass with beautifully orchestrated sounds and clever, well-timed samples, resulting in a more mature but equally heavy collection of dance floor destroyers. Let’s break down the four best songs on the CD:

The CD begins with "The World Is Nothing". The track permeates with a heavy Nu Metal influence. Funeral organ, dub bass and pounding drums set the vibe for a heavy, melodic beat. It is here that we start to feel a new Luna 13 sound – a moving melody combined with a glitchy, prolonged rythem. However, my favorite part of the track has to be the first entrance of the layered organ- it provides a powerful, sweeping feeling to the track without taking away from the get-up-and-dance air to the track. The Track becomes a double-time frenzy great for headbanging, before slowing down once again to end off the track.

"Come Ye Spirits" builds off smooth electronic stabs with a sharp buildup to an electro nightmare sequence. If you wanted a sound guide to the new Witchstep sound, this would be it.

Can I say that the song "Never" is my favorite song ever? "Never" is the best display of Luna 13’s growth as an artist. JJweekz provides dreamy vocals, gives the song depth and the “Betty Boop emo sound” paves the way for Luna 13’s most commercial song ever. Fantastic use of sweeps and filters build up the track to the point of exploding, where finally the song drops into a frenzy of Borgore-esque grit and that oh so wonderful Luna 13 sound. A great combination of grinding bass and uplifting melody make this the best overall production on the CD. I am an official fan of Luna 13 (I listened to this song over 100 times).

The most symphonic song of “Resurrection In Black” has to be The Mighty Queen’. Bulging beats introduce you to the heaviest dubstep track on the CD. Am I listening to a dubstep version of the song 'The Thing That Should Not Be' by Metallica? Flawless triggering of different beats and heavy bass give this song a dark, mosh pit-inducing flavor. Again, breakdowns and interludes are heavily orchestrated, leading the listener through an intense journey of sounds and POWER. The grittiest of the gritty, I definitely see this as a great song to open a set with. The only words in this song are “The story says that Luna 13, sold his soul to the Mighty Queen.” Nothing else needs to be said!

"Resurrection In Black" is a journey in and of its own. Powerful production, creativity, and head-thumping bass dominate this CD, and I love Jade Luna’s 4x4 style that is unique to him, no crazy, hard to follow dub here! Luna 13 does not create your traditional builds and drops, yet uses dubstep to write more relatable songs. Rest assured, Luna 13 is not going to just be entertaining Wiccans and Pagans as the sound coming of this CD is fresh enough dominate the Goth and Emo scene.
