The Soles had a good starting run of things in true DYI indie fashion; they released their first record, You Burst Into Fire Again (YBIFA) which mostly chronicled Din's recovery from long-term depression and also delved into his interest and involvement in activism (Iraq War, Secret Trials and First Nations issues). YBIFA enjoyed some good US national radio play and it also found its way into an environmental documentary Fight For The Planet with its lead single Sky (In The Name Of You).

The Soles began touring the album all across Ontario and in 2010 Din found himself singing in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. From there he made it to Victoria for a solo show. When he arrived back in Toronto in March he was interested in moving on from YBIFA onto the next recording. That’s when the band received an invite to play the largest festival in North America: The Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle USA on May 31 2010. The band planned a mini-tour around this festival with a few shows in Victoria BC.

Next, The Soles released the Broken Ghost EP Feb.16.2011. It was produced by Marc Merilainen and recorded at CBC Studio 211 and Heading North in Toronto, where it was engineerd and mastered by Ron Skinner.
