ovEnola is an metalcore band based in Tokyo, Japan formed in 2016. It was founded by bassist Yuto Lizuka, a former member of Sailing Before The Wind and support for Imperial Circus Dead Decadence, among others. The founding lineup comprised vocalist kneeya (also vocalist of Kandarivas), guitarists anzai and akc, bassist Yuto Lizuka and drummer Satomi.
Yuto Lizuka eventually left the band, and was replaced by support bassist Tomotaka of Phantom Excaliver. For undisclosed reasons, drummer Satomi took a break from the band. In the meantime, the band had support from the drummer Koji.
ovEnola's musical identity is a fusion of 1990s nu metal and industrial elements interwoven with contemporary genres like metalcore and deathcore, culminating in a distinctive sonic signature.
It would take two years before releasing their debut EP "Death Wish", on June 6, 2018. This was succeeded by the release of the single "The Wretched" on September 8, 2019, followed by "Devastator," featuring ZUHO from the Japanese death metal band Abort Mastication, on November 9, 2019.
In 2020, they released their highly anticipated debut album "Left Behind". The album featured guest vocals from ZUHO again, Bon from the Thai metalcore band Annalynn, and Courtney LaPlante of the Canadian progressive metal band Spiritbox, generating significant attention.
In 2022, ovEnola released a trilogy of singles titled "Doors," "Monsters," and "Thrones." They were released on January 19, February 16 and March 16 respectively.
The band announced on Instagram on December 26, 2022 that their drummer Satomi, who was on hiatus, would not come back to the band. In the same announcement, they declared that their support bassist Tomotaka and support drummer Koji would join the band as official members. However, both Tomotaka and Koji eventually departed from ovEnola on July 21, 2023. Tomotaka is still playing bass in Phantom Excaliver.
The band's forthcoming release, the EP "UNDERWATER," is scheduled for September 27, 2023, featuring a collaboration with Ryoichi Suemori from Sailing Before The Wind. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
