Of The Sun was conceived by T.J. Bailey (drums), David Duvall (bass, vocals), and Patrick Duvall (lead vocals, guitar) in September of 2009 in Myrtle Beach, SC upon completion of their 12-song debut album AM Radio. All self-taught musicians, the members in Of The Sun approach their instrumental styling -as well as their songwriting- from brave and unorthodox perspectives. Drawing from the essential spirit of Jimi Hendrix; the twisted minds of bands like Primus, Psyopus, Behold... The Arctopus, and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum; the vitality inherent in Pantera, Bad Brains, Rage Against The Machine, and Corrosion Of Conformity; and the dynamic sonic embrace in the songwriting of bands like Tool, Dream Theater, Between The Buried And Me, and Mastodon, Of The Sun strive to understand each element from their own perspective instead of attempting to formulate what's already been done in order to replicate a sound that's already been heard. A hiatus was declared for nearly two years as their friends in The Classic Struggle fell on hard times and needed the assistance of T.J. when their original drummer, Tyler Solnosky, quit and his replacement, Corey Grady, abruptly left town three weeks before a national tour. In this time, T.J. filled in on drums for TCS's tour as well as for a handful of other events, and David and Patrick packaged AM Radio, played a number of showcases with their brother, Joe Duvall, on drums, moved to Austin, TX, grew beards, shaved them off, ate some food, wrote some more songs for an upcoming E.P., Before A Human Path, learned the two-step, forgot it, ate some more food, and looked at this one really hot chick on the bus but quickly looked the other way when she looked back.
