REVIVAL OF THE ERA was a visual kei band based in Tokyo, Japan, active from 2017 to 2022. The band consisted of vocalist Noname, guitarist & vocalist Kazumi, guitarist Ryu, bassist Suu, and supported by drummer Ryo (遼). Previous members were drummer Lenon and support drummer Hibiki (響).
The band was formed as a non-visual kei metalcore band in Tokyo in 2017. They wanted to play metalcore, but with some extra element. Inspiration came from the band Ice Nine Kills, which Kazumi described as a "listening movie" band with more than just instruments, incorporating a woman's scream or moving objects to create an audatory narrative.
The band's moniker was inspired by a phrase Kazumi heard a frontman he liked say: "The metal scene in Japan is dead, but we'll prove that it's still alive." Kazumi wanted to breathe life back into the time when intense music was thriving in Japan, a revival of the era.
Debuting with the maxi-single "Osiris" on August 17, 2017, featuring Yutaka from Yuzuriha, REVIVAL OF THE ERA soon followed with the mini-album "Rosaria" on February 23, 2018. Subsequent releases included the maxi-singles "Auset" (August 31, 2018), "ATOM" (September 13, 2019), and the collaborative single "616" with GIVEN BY THE FLAMES (March 13, 2020).
The evolution towards a visual kei style was marked by the single "PR△D△" (April 20, 2020) and "ayame" (May 23), culminating in the visual kei-infused mini-album "Nephthys," featuring guitarist Cazqui, released on November 4, 2020. "Lilith," their subsequent single, arrived on June 30, 2021.
As the band ventured further, health concerns led to drummer Lenon's departure. The role was briefly assumed by supported drummer Hibiki before being filled by support drummer Ryo.
The journey continued with the single "BRAND NEW WORLD" on January 18, 2022, succeeded by the best-of album "REVIVAL OF THE ERA" on March 6, 2022. The band disbanded a few weeks later on March 20, 2022.
In the aftermath, Kazumi, Ryu, and Suu formed a new visual kei band named AQULOCIELA (アクロシエラ), partnering with drummer Haruki to begin activities in September 2022. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
