Do What I Gotta Do Lyrics

Gotta do what I gotta do
Do what I gotta do
Cause cash rules everything around me

If you take a look around
Take a look at was goin' down
If you can see what I see, baby
And why act the way I do
Cause you can't understand
And you don't really know a man
Until you've been where I've been
Loose the things I've lost
But can you change the way that you look at me

All that you can say to me
the things I just can say no more
I'm not the same guy that I used to be
We don't even talk no more

Don't I get up everyday
Don't I bring home all my pay
Don't I do whatever it takes
If I could just get my baby out tha ghetto

Gotta do what I gotta do
Move when it's time to move
See who I gotta see
Cause cash rules everything around me
Do what I gotta do
Be who I gotta be
But it's not enough for you
Cause we can live without enough money

She is afraid to get involved
She ain't willin to fall in love
It's such a risk to take and a big mistake
By the way I make my livin'
But I let you know from the go
That's the way it is
And that's the way it goes
It's the only life I know
But you can't do nuthing to change that baby

All that you can say to me
the things I just can say no more
I'm not the same guy that I used to be
We don't even talk no more

Don't I get up everyday
Don't I bring home all my pay
Don't I do whatever it takes
If I could just get my baby out tha ghetto

Gotta do what I gotta do
Move when it's time to move
See who I gotta see
Cause cash rules everything around me
Do what I gotta do
Be who I gotta be
But it's not enough for you
Cause we can live without enough money

Gotta do what I gotta do
Move when it's time to move
See who I gotta see
Cause cash rules everything around me
Do what I gotta do
Be who I gotta be
But it's not enough for you
Cause we can live without enough money

Just try and understand me
Look at it from my point of view
Nuthin in this world is free
So I do what I gotta do
Didn't I give you, the big cars n tha big rimes
I kept you, less then
The finer things, baby what you think
It was coming from stop actin dumb
I knew you knew, but you played it off
I play it too, like I had it all
I was your man gave you everything
So don't act like you don't understand

Gotta do what I gotta do
Move when it's time to move
See who I gotta see
Cause cash rules everything around me
Do what I gotta do
Be who I gotta be
But it's not enough for you
Cause we can live without enough money

Donell Jones (born May 22, 1973) is an American R&B singer, songwriter and producer, most notable for the hits "U Know What's Up", "Where I Wanna Be" and his cover of Stevie Wonder's "Knocks Me Off My Feet".

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Jones' upbringing was rough. He struggled between wanting to be a musician and to be a member of a street gang. After a brush with death, Jones left the gang and focused on a music career forming the group Porscha. However, Jones was gaining notice as a writer penning songs for established R&B acts such as Usher, producing the singer's 1995 hit, "Think of You", 702's "Get It Together" and also wrote for groups such as Brownstone and Silk.

In 1996, he signed with LaFace Records and released his debut album, My Heart, which included his hit cover of Stevie Wonder's 1976 ballad "Knocks Me Off My Feet". It wasn't until 1999 however that Jones began to establish himself as a R&B hit maker with the album, Where I Wanna Be. The album yielded the number-one hits such as "U Know What's Up", which featured TLC member Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes and the title track. Other hits included "Shorty (Got Her Eyes on Me)" and "This Luv".

In 2002, Jones released the gold-selling Life Goes On album, which featured the hits, "You Know That I Love You" and "Put Me Down" featuring Styles P.. Four years later, he released his fourth album, Journey of a Gemini, which featured the Tim & Bob hit, "I'm Gonna Be", which became a big hit on Urban AC. Jones is currently writing songs for Usher, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey on their upcoming albums. Read more on Last.fm.
