The Latin Kings was a Swedish hiphop/rap-group founded by Douglas Léon (aka Dogge Doggelito), Rodrigo Pencheff (aka Rodde/Rigo) and Cristian Salazar Campos (aka Dj Salla) in 1991. All of the members came from Latin American countries, hence the name. Hugo Salazar Campos (aka Chepe), Salla's brother, joined the group, following Rodde parting the group and joining up with another group called Infinite Mass. The group was active between 1991 until 2005.

They gained attention when they competed in Rap-SM in 1991, where they finished in 3rd place (winner was Infinite Mass) and were "discovered" by Gordon Cyrus, a music producer and owner of the label "Breakin' Bread".

Latin Kings broke through in 1994 through a TV program that presented the group in parallel with Ultima Thule and thus wanted to show the polar opposites of Swedish subcultural music. Immediately after the program, there was a huge demand for both Ultima Thule's and Latin King's music.

In 1994 came their debut album Välkommen till förorten.

In 1995, the group under the name Los Reyes Latinos released Bienvenido a mi barrio, a Spanish-language version of Välkommen till förorten intended for the South American market, to this record Rodde returned, mainly because Dogge was not very good at Spanish. Recurring guests on the records were the toaster Daddy Boastin' and the singer Nang Shubang. After being released from an unfavorable recording contract with Warner, in the mid-1990s the group started the record label Redline Records. The song Passa micken from their third album I skuggan av betongen is considered by many to be the starting point for the heavier Swedish hip-hop that had the greatest public success in the early 2000s. They toured extensively in 2003-2004, including the "Cashen Dom Tas Tour".

In 2005 came the compilation album Familia Royal, which was the groups last release together. However it took until 2007 before Dogge confirmed the split.

A brief reunion was teased to happen in 2020 during the music festival "Vi som älskar 90-talet" (trans: We who love the 90s), without the Salazar brothers. The group would be Dogge, Rodde, and Daddy Boastin' (who passed away in august of that year). The festival was however cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the subsequent reunion never took place.

In 2022 the group once again did a reunion and performed as a quartet with Azzan Jaxx and TITO. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
