CHRIS CAVILL & THE LONG WEEKEND Chris’ unique fusion of roots, blues and reggae forms the backbone of an original sound that lends itself to an impressive live performance. His rhythmic, structured guitar melodies and soulful, distinctive voice creates a sound that switches effortlessly from a mood of deep reflection to one that sweats pure energy. With the African-influenced addition of Alena Schneider on percussion, ‘One-drop’ master Johnny “Hooves” Clayton on the kit, and Lucas Taranto on bass, Chris has created a rhythm section to die for, and one that must be experienced live to be fully appreciated. Following the release of his EP “Clara’s Story” in late 2007, Chris has achieved a remarkable six months of musical success. The record, which was launched to a packed out Northcote Social Club has received regular airplay from Triple J’s Roots n All and other local Melbourne radio stations such as RRR. His passion for delivering his music to a broader audience has seen him play many shows throughout Australia, including tours to Adelaide and Tasmania, an abundance of shows across regional Victoria, and three very special performances at last years Queenscliff Music Festival. Already, hungry crowds have had a taste of Chris and Alena’s new alliance with former Red Eyes and Josh Owen Band drummer John Clayton. This included playing at the 2008 ‘Jam for Oxfam’ in April at the East Brunswick Club (which Chris co-organised) raising over $1500 for the charity.
