Saptarshi Mukherjee is the promising new-age vocalist who has given his voice to numerous hit songs in the Bengali film industry. He also has his own solo album and host of playbacks to his kitty which makes him again one of the most desirable artists in the music industry today.

Saptarshi was born in a middle class Bengali family in South Calcutta. Being reared in the ambiance of family members who are also musically inclined inculcated in him the knack to appreciate and understand good music at a very early age. He has been hugely influenced by maestros like Tagore, Lalon, Suman, Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel in his early days.

The encouragement which he received at school also stirred his interest in music greatly and honed up his skills in acoustic guitar. Thereafter Saptarshi gained 2 years of formal education in music. He was under the tutelage of Sri Aniruddha Bhattacharya in Hindustani Classical and Kabir Suman in popular music. Hindustani classical music helped him to understand, feel, breathe and appreciate what real Indian music is. His brief stint of learning from Kabir Suman opened up a new genre for him as Bengali songs got added to his repertoire.

With his unending quest for learning music, Saptarshi’s academic pursuits never lagged behind. A master in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, Saptarshi is also an experienced banker in a leading MNC in Kolkata.

Amid all his commitments, Saptarshi still finds some time to devote himself for any social cause. He is involved with the youth wing of Sanlaap, a civil rights organization (which supports the children from the red-light areas), which again bears testimony to the fact that he is committed towards the betterment of the society at large.

Saptarshi has recently created his own band “Machhranga” which shot to fame with the release of the titled album. The band has already started performing across prestigious concerts in India and wishes to take forward the legacy of Bengali songs.
