Born in Havana, Cuba, DONATO POVEDA LOPEZ started his professional singer-songwriter career at age 18 as part of the Island’s musical scene. He created music for Theater and Television specially “La Botija” for which he earned the (Best Music) award from the International Film Festival of Havana in 1989. He became well-known in Cuba with the songs, “Madre Por Qué?”, “Alex”, “Historia De Un Amor”, “Cambiando El Tema”, “El Eslabón Perdido”, and “Alguien Llama”.
He left Cuba and immediately developed a meteoric musical career. As part of the duet, Donato & Estefano (Sony International), he released four (4) albums including a (Greatest Hits), each one more innovative than the last. Overflowing with his cultural vision Donato endorses the evolution of a Latin Pop with spirit, revealing the passion that has identified his compositions for other artists as well.
Donato has written many hits and has quickly become one of the most acclaimed Latin songwriters. With songs like “Usted Se Me Llevó La Vida” and “ Es Por Amor” by Alexandre Pires, “Quisiera Ser”, “Solamente Tu Amor”, “Baila Baila”, “Candela”, and “Insidpensable” by Chayanne, “Agua Dulce Agua Salá” by Julio Iglesias, “Dejate Querer” and “Enseñame A Vivir Sin Ti” by Gilberto Santa Rosa, he has definitely refined his songwriting craft. He has also penned “Por Ti Seré” the Spanish adaptation of “You Raise Me Up” for Il Divo and has collaborated with many renowned artists like Emmanuel, Ill Factor, Tricky Stuart, Willy Chirino, Lissette, Victor Manuel, Sergio Dalma, El Puma Rodriguez, Melina Leon, Gisselle, Cristian Castro, Alejandro Fernandez, and more recently Thalia, with her own version of “Estoy Enamorado” beautifully recorded live in a duet with Pedro Capo.
Bohemio Enamorado his previous record was release in 2002, under BMG Latin. The first promotional single of the same name reached the top 20 in Billboard and still generously receive airplay like a classic. The record was nominated for a Grammy under the Best Latin Pop album category.
“Cuando Pienses En Mi” Donato’s latest production is a remarkable collection of ten (10) songs. Purely romantic in nature the album contains slow and mid-tempo ballads with smooth vocals in a crooner’s style, which gives an easy listening experience to this record. The release date is set for September 7th of 2010 under Miami’s independent label “Think Famous”.
The first single “El Desorden” describes the story of a couple’s dysfunctional and passionate relationship where she has just left him, taking with her all his possessions along with his self-esteem. She later decides to come back to realize he has grown immune to her charms, but he is concealing his true feelings he is still deeply captivated by her.
Donato is not only a phenomenal composer and artist; he has also managed to be an amazing friend and the parent of five (5) children. My kids are my inspiration, they have taught me how to keep learning, no matter how much I know there’s always a new lesson to deal with every day.
