Pötzsch attended the St. Benno Grammar School, received musical training at the Heinrich Schütz Conservatory in Dresden until 2003 and studied piano at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden (HfM) with Michael Fuchs and Matthias Bätzel from 2004 until receiving his artistic diploma in 2010. This was followed by composition studies with Thomas Zoller.

In 2013, he composed the ballet music Što zwostanje - Abschied for the Sorbian National Ensemble.

In 2015, he arranged some songs by the band Rammstein for piano; on the concept album Rammstein - XXI Klavier, he is also the sole performer of the selected Rammstein tracks.[3][4] His album Remember Tomorrow, released in 2019 in the Neue Meister series on Edel, was nominated for the Opus Klassik in five categories. Furthermore, he can also be heard on albums by guitarist Paul Peuker and saxophonist Robert Menzel.

Pötzsch taught piano and accompaniment at the Lausitz University of Music.
Pötzsch has been awarded several scholarships and prizes, including a prize in the International Jazz Haus Piano Competition Freiburg (2008), a finalist in the Concours de piano-jazz Martial Solal (2009), a scholarship from the Cultural Foundation of the State of Saxony and won the soloist prize at the Krokus Jazz Festiwal[5] in Jelenia Góra (2012).
