David Michael Miller grew up in Allegany County, south of Buffalo, New York. He started singing at a young age in his church, where he was surrounded by gospel music, which still impacts his music to this day. During the 70's and 80's he was exposed to all kinds of music and learned to play saxophone, piano and eventually guitar. David says he was always inspired by the blues and R&B, although he had never fully embraced them until later in life. David had been composing music for his church at the age of 12. While he was in college, he did an internship in Nashville where he had become disillusioned with the music industry.
In 1995 David had formed the band Painted by Moses, who were influenced by the Seattle scene, they released a couple albums of songs that David had written and sold over 2500 copies in a couple of years. There music was played on college and niche stations all over the United States and they performed at festivals in Western New York through Chicago.
David's thoughts on religion had changed after performing gospel music for several years and he started to incorporate his blues and soul influences into his music. Having been inspired by such artists as Tommy Z., David formed a band called Beautiful Bones with his son Joshua, nephew Nick Peterson and the legendary keyboard player, Jim Ehinger. They wrote and performed blues and soul music all over Western New York. Beautiful Bones had the privilege for opening at festivals for national acts like Joe Bonamassa and David Allen Coe.
Due to changes in the direction of Beautiful Bones, David eventually joined with members of the Todd Eberwine band to form Dive House Union (DHU), a 6 piece jam band, that fused rock, blues, soul and funk. David was the lead singer and primary writer for DHU which allowed him to contribute most of the music for their two live albums, Live at Kleinhans Music Hall and Live at the Aurora Theatre. With DHU David was able to open for such national acts as Tedeschi Trucks, Jonny Lang, Gary Clark Jr., Bobby Blue Bland, Jimmie Vaughan and many others. DHU has travelled regionally and made it to the semi-finals of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.
David's first solo album, Poisons Sipped, provided him with international airplay, many accolades, chart positions in the Roots Music Report and birthed the formation of a new band from the performers on that album, Miller and the Other Sinners (MATOS). Members of the band include members of The Campbell Brothers (Carlton and Darick Campbell), Jay Moynihan (Buddy Guy), Jim Ehinger (Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal) as well as other amazing artists from Western New York . While working on their first EP, David had the opportunity to do another solo album, Same Soil, with Grammy nominated producer, Mike Brown. Same Soil was tracked in Temperamental Studios in Geneseo, New York. Many artists from Western New York were involved in the making of the album and 50% of the album was recorded with pre WWII instruments.
Miller and the Other Sinners released a live album called 3 Nights at the Strand, and, at the time of this writing they are getting ready to release a new album named Rise. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
