Maria Albistur is best known for her 'electronic tango, the talented Argentine has a long history mixing beats and groovy new sounds with more traditional forms of music. She's been in a series of experimental ensembles that have ranged from jazz and funk to Latin-African projects.
In 1999, Maria moved to Madrid to tour with Joaquin Sabina's all over Spain, as well as in Latin America. Since then, she's been living and working as a recording artist and performing in concerts with the likes of David Broza, Ramón Leal, Luis Pastor, and others.
She released her first record, ‘Insomne’ in 2000, the album was licensed into different territories and since then, Maria has been performing in Spain and Argentina. In 2001 Maria played in different Spanish venues and headlined the ¨First Argentinean week in Madrid¨ playing at Sala La Riviera.
Her music and lyrics unveil the magic of modern music out of Latin America today as much as artists like Anga Diaz Echu, Misia, Susana Baça and others. It’s chilled out, has a bit of a verve to it, some rock, at times sounds ‘lounge’...., in essence it’s refreshing music, delivered with powerful lyrics!!
She is currently touring Argentina with her second album, 'Avatar', licensed to MCA Universal Argentina and Uruguay, alongside a series of guest artists that include: Leonardo Favio, Daniel Melingo, F. Samalea, Javier Malosetti, Leo Minax, Lucas Martí, Edu Nascimento, Ramiro Musotto, Nirankar Singh Khalsa and others. Avat.ar, the compilation of her 2 previous albums and will be out sometime in 2006.
