Seress Rezső (in Western name order Rezső Seress) was a Hungarian pianist and composer. He is best known for his piece "Szomorú vasárnap," which is called "Gloomy Sunday" in English. The song, written in 1933, grew infamous after its association with a series of suicides. According to legend, the melancholy song would drive listeners to immediately kill themselves. The song and legend were featured in the Hungarian/German coproduction Szomorú vasárnap / Ein Lied von Liebe und Tod, a feature film released in 1999 and called Gloomy Sunday in English.
