Herbert Schuch was born in Temesvar (Romania) in 1979, and took his first piano lessons from Maria Bodo. Shortly before the collapse of the Communist regime, the family emigrated to Germany, where the young Herbert Schuch took further music tuition with Kurt Hantsch in Rosenheim before entering the Mozarteum in Salzburg - at the age of twelve - and continuing his piano studies with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling.

In the 2004—2005 season, Herbert Schuch won three first prizes - in the Casagrande Piano Competition, Terni (Italy), the London International Piano Competition and the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna - and went on to debut at the Vienna Musikverein with Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto under the baton of Pierre Boulez.

Since then he has worked with such orchestras as the Frankfurt RSO, the German Radio Philharmonic of Saarbrücken/Kaiserslautern, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg, the State Philharmonic of the Rhineland Palatinate and the Orchestre National de Lyon, and makes regular guest appearances at festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival, the Kissinger Summer and the Ruhr Piano Festival.

His interest in chamber music, stimulated by his childhood training on the violin, is something he shares with such musicians as Adrian Brendel, Mirijam Contzen, Julia Fischer, Marie-Elisabeth Hecker, Sebastian Klinger, Alina Pogostkin and Martin Spangenberg.

Herbert Schuch has particularly benefited from recent encounters and work with Alfred Brendel.

The current season will see Herbert Schuch giving recitals in Tokyo, Toulouse, Mainz, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, Perugia, Las Palmas, Munich (Herkulessaal), Vienna (Konzerthaus) and at the Mosel Festival Weeks and the Rheingau Music Festival.
He will be undertaking a concert tour of Japan with the Vienna RSO under the direction of Dmitry Kitayenko and making his debut with the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Münster and Düsseldorf. Performing with the Australian Youth Orchestra, Herbert Schuch will be completing his cycle of Beethoven piano concertos this summer at the 2009 Beethoven Festival in Adelaide. He can also be heard at the Festival de Saint-Denis (Paris) in Beethoven's Choral Fantasy.

In September 2005 his debut CD featuring works by Schumann and Ravel appeared on the OehmsClassics label, which in 2008 coupled his recordings of Schubert's Piano Sonatas in G major D894 and A minor D537 with Helmut Lachenmann's "Five Variations on a Theme by Schubert" and "Guero". Herbert Schuch's third CD release, of "Night Pieces", will be on retail sale from March 2009.

Herbert Schuch has been active for some time as a musician in the "Rhapsody in School" organization, founded by Lars Vogt, which is committed to bringing classical music into schools. He was a member of Yehudi Menuhin's "Live Music Now" between 1996 and 2006.
