Vyva Melinkolya is a solo music project by Angel Diaz, a transgender artist, musician, and photographer living out of Pittsburgh, PA. She is originally from Louisville, KY.
The elements of her sound are a mixing pot of previous, lumbering music, such as western slowcore, the likes of Chelsea Wolfe, Low, and Jesu, and, in particular, 1990's shoegaze. Even so, Vyva Melinkoyla proves to be a standing project of original, contemporary, droning noise, with heavy lyricism and soft melodies.
Vyva Melinkolya, her self-titled debut, came out in 2018, masterfully concentrating sounds of doomgaze and online "sadcore," generating a wave of acclaim in underground internet scenes.
In 2020, she released Violet - EP, a mini-album focused on expanding and improving the artistic and sonic palette of her previous record. It is genuine, mature, and beckons the listener into a dark field of subtle guitar.
In 2023, she released the record Orbweaving, made in collaboration with ambient / slowcore artist Midwife, out of indie label The Flenser, showcasing her influence and personal, almost 'blurry' melancholy.
Later that year, Diaz released a second album, Unbecoming, a darker, more personal project dedicated to victims of intimate partner violence. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
