"Indie Rock from a Distant Future"

PRO AUDIO is nerdcore. Geek pop. Indie rock.

They formed in 2001 with John Hoelle playing bass and singing lead. Jason Fischer playing keyboards, guitar, and singing lead. Ryan Thomson playing drums.

They recorded their first album "Saturday We're Even..." in 2003 with this line-up.

It hops from Holland and Sukpatch inspired blip music to driving Grandaddy and Quasi space rock to Ben Folds Five piano pop with an overall kitchen sink Elephant 6 aesthetic.

Then lots of things happened.

Ryan quit. Bri Dellinger joined up bringing her multi-instrumentalist skills in the form of keyboards, banjo, oboe, and girl vocals. Paul Withers, a percussion maestro, sat in behind the kit and brought an arsenal of bells and whistles.

With this line-up they recorded their second album, "Make the Happiness Stop" in 2008.

It continues in the realm of Grandaddy and Ben Folds, but adds more accessible punk pop to the mix in the vein of Weezer, The Rentals, and Say Anything. It also heavily leans on the quirky and clever music of They Might Be Giants and Ween.

It is a massively long album with 23 tracks including a bunch of intergalactic instrumental interstitials and a running theme from Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughter-house Five." It is a futuristic prog opus with catchy singles hidden between the lines.

PRO AUDIO has been around long enough to be considered an established band and is still functioning. They are hard at work on an EP and a new LP that may start seeing the light of day in 2009.
