Fence Lyrics

I'm wondering where I stand
Am I the front door or am I the land
That you're living on
Until you can move along
I'm wondering, wondering where I stand

Could this be your plan?
A blueprint you've drafted and understand
With me just a practical afterthought
Placed at the back of the lot
Could this, could this be your plan?

I am a fence in your backyard
Why is it so hard
And it's hardly love if I can't let you run
Down to the gate, the latch is undone

I'm thinking of the places I've stood
Am I a castle or am I wood
That you'll paint upon
Until it dries and peels on the lawn
I'm thinking, thinking of the places I've stood

Look at all the leaves I've stopped
Am I a line am I a spot
That you'll wish upon
Until I'm downed by wind and rot
Look at, look at all the leaves I've stopped

I am a fence in your backyard
Why is it so hard?
And it's hardly love if I can't let you run
Down to the gate, the latch is undone
And it's far enough if I can't see anyone
Don't make me wait
The latch is undone

All the things I could be in your life
The closest I'll ever get
Fills me with regret and it makes no sense

I am a fence in your backyard
Why is it so hard?
And it's hardly love if I can't let you run
Down to the gate, the latch is undone
And it's far enough if I can't see anyone
Don't make me wait
The latch is undone

Bombadil is a contemporary folk-pop band from North Carolina.

The members of Bombadil have been playing music together since 2006. The group is composed of four mild-manner gentlemen who agree on everything except how to make music. Bombadil went into suspended animation in 2009 after an injury forced the band to stop touring indefinitely. In 2011, the band reformed, and has been active ever since. The sound is steeped in folk and possesses an almost classical air in its arrangements. Lyrics play a central and weighty role in every tune - telling stories of the mundane parts of life we all experience sometimes and the tragic or comic actions we take to redeem ourselves. The band hopes listeners will be able to find a bit of themselves in Bombadil, and come to realize it's the music they've had in their heads all along.

Bombadil has released 5 albums:

Self-titled ep - 2006
A Buzz, A Buzz - 2008
Tarpits and Canyonlands - 2009
All That The Rain Promises - 2011
Metrics of Affection - 2013

Note: Bombadil may also refer to a 1970's glam rock parody band featuring members of Barclay James Harvest. Nick Mobbs, an A&R man at progressive rock label Harvest Records, formed Bombadil in 1974 to record the song "Breathless" and "When the City Sleeps" as a spoof of the glam rock that had just become trendy. Although the songs were supposedly written by "Terry Bull" and "Lester Forrest" they were in fact written by Woolly Wolstenholme and played by his band Barclay James Harvest. The songs failed to attract much interest however and before long BJH left Bombadil behind and became successful in their own right. Read more on Last.fm.
