Derek Kimberlin also known as TBMA (The Black Medicine Artist) was born February 7, 1979 in Sandusky, Ohio. Derek was born into a family where music was a way of life. His father played the guitar in many bands growing up. Derek's older brother, Tyson, learned to play the guitar from their dad at a very young age. Derek had started playing the drums at the age of fourteen. Before starting high school his brother and Derek started a band called Anibus. As his love for rap grew he joined a band called Moko. Moko was a rapcore metal group which was formed with his brother on guitar, Derek on vocals, and also Rick, who is now better known as "Stitch" from the famous band Mushroomhead. Moko did several shows in Cleveland, Indiana, and other surrounding venues. Moko recorded an album called Moko-Kane at Dead City Records. During that time TBMA also joined forces with Enmity from Detroit forming a group called Mass Kunfusion. Due to the long distance partnership Mass Kunfusion fell apart. TBMA decided to go solo and continued to work with rap music and making beats. He was picked up by Rydas Records and made a few tracks that were produced by Waste and Stir Crazy (who has produced plenty of music for Pyschopathic Records). Still wanting something more TBMA was picked up by IIE (Infinite Illusion Entertainment). Through IIE a double album was released from Long Range Distribution; "The Medicine Cabinet 1" and "Medicine Cabinet Mentally Altered". TBMA continued to work on developing his music skills and learning more about the music industry while juggling life, family, and friends. In 2004 Derek received a life changing phone call from Johnathon Welch saying he wanted to record him exclusively and drop an album. That day an unbelievable relationship was formed over the love of music. BLP (Black Laboratory Productions) was created. Track after track was recorded. The best ones out of about 40 tracks were picked and "Black Medicine" was released. The rest of the tracks were released as a free album called "Overdose" to help promote "Black Medicine". While with BLP TBMA continued to work on tracks and worked on a few side projects. Some of which can be heard on BLP's released album called "BLP Chapter 1". As time passes TBMA moves on from BLP and is currently working solo under his own production, "Black Medicine Productions". He also has a side project with Bradley "Deadbeat Brad" Mayer called "The ChillBillys". Read more on Last.fm.
