Formed in the winter of 1997, far from within is a 4-member band based in Massapequa NY located on Long Island. Not quite fitting into any one of the typical genres in the New York metal/hardcore scene, far from within has had quite a time finding their niche. With the release of the last CD Tomorrow Never Happened and its subsequent airplay at local stations all of that has changed.

The CD's hard hitting and aggressive tracks have been well received by fans and critics at radio stations and clubs in and around the Long Island and New York City region. Local colleges such as Nassau Community and Hofstra University have added it to their weekly metal show rotation.

In a review of far from within self titled first release, far from within's sound was once compared to as being pierced with a "white hot darning needle of infinite length." And although this was a compliment, it fails to capture the true feeling of what far from within expresses, and what the listener will experience while listening to a CD or being at a live performance. It's not just about pain and anger, but also about all of the things we feel in everyday life.

When asked to describe themselves, far from within refuses to resort to "spooky" metaphors. If they thought their "crushing chords" and "pounding bass lines" would effect any understanding of what they sound like they'd be sure to tell you, but far from within is trying to escape the norm and create a name for themselves, by themselves. The music on the other hand has no problem describing itself. It can go from heavy, to melodic, to driving, and from insane to tranquil.

In the summer of 2001 the band's former front man left in pursuit of other goals to california where he hoped to make it big with a local band there. Far from within was left singerless for a while while working on new material, and was lucky to find their new and permanant front man, Aaron Perretta. With a drastically different style, far from within have been able to further evolve their music and style, and explore other sounds which were not previously possible. After playing their first show with Aaron on february 5th 2003, FFW has been asked to play in the prestigious Homegrown Heavy which will be aired on WBAB, a major radio station in the NY area.

As for far from within's resume, they have played such venues as CBGB in New York City, the March Metal Meltdown at Asbury Park in New Jersey (March 1998), and the legendary Dr. Shay's on Long Island (well it was legendary to the local bands…). far from within is also participating in some of the major online music communities such as farm club, mp3.com, and garageband.com.
