Dirty Dozen is a shortened moniker that generally refers to New Orleans based group, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. A funky evolving ensemble led by trumpter Gregory Davis that for over 30 years has redefined the classic New Orleans brass band jazz sound with genre-smashing interpolations. They are a sought after backing group whose track record since 1977 includes thousands of sweaty performances from Pittsburgh PA to Paris FRA to Papua New Guinea, and cool collaborations with a variety of artists ranging from Dizzy Gillespie, Elvis Costello, Norah Jones to David Bowie and Modest Mouse. Their bold brassy sound builds on classic composistions from artists like Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton as well as more contemporary acts like The Meters, and Motown artists.
