Frances Walker - Slocum is an accomplished black pianist who is at the forefront of Black pianists in America. She has trained many pianists as a tenured professor at Oberlin College's Music Conservatory in Ohio. She retired in 1991 from teaching at Oberlin since 1975.

Ms. Walker was trained at Oberlin College, Curtis Institute, Juilliard, the Manhattan School of Music and Columbia University.

In 2006, her autobiography, A Miraculous Journey, was published by AuthorHouse.
