RONALDO BASTOS
Born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Ronaldo began his professional career in 1967.
He composed more then two hundred songs, in partnership with Milton Nascimento (as "Cravo e Canela", "Fé Cega, Faca Amolada", "Cais"), Antonio Carlos Jobim (some of the songs of the soundtrack to the TV series "O Tempo e o Vento"), Paulo Jobim ("Maria é Dia"), Edu Lobo ("Zanga, Zangada"), Caetano Veloso/João Donato ("Naquela Estação"), Beto Guedes (as "Sol de Primavera", "Amor de Índio", "Lumiar", "Canção do Novo Mundo"), Lô Borges (as "O Trem Azul", "Sonho Real"), Toninho Horta (as "Bons Amigos", " , Flávio Venturini ("Todo Azul Do Mar", "Princesa"), Johnny Alf ("Olhos Negros"), Ed Motta ("Falso Milagre Do Amor", "Dias De Paz", "Vendaval"), among many other names of Brazilian music.
His songs deserved the wonderful interpretation of many famous voices as Elis Regina, Sarah Vaughn, Nana Caymmi, Gal Costa, Maria Bethânia, Simone, Ney Matogrosso, besides his partners themselves.
The author of the Portuguese verses to Lately (Stevie Wonder) and Till There Was You (a Beatles¹ hit), he is also known as one of the greatest version makers in Brazil.
As a producer he stood out as a very creative professional, who sees every album as a piece of art, being many times awarded for his works with Milton Nascimento (Minas / Geraes), Beto Guedes (A Página do Relâmpago Elétrico / Amor de Índio / Sol de Primavera), Toninho Horta (Terra dos Pássaros), Lô Borges (Nuvem Cigana), and Nana Caymmi (Chora Brasileira).
In 1994, Ronaldo created the label Dubas Música, with the release of the CD "Sorte", the first album of the trilogy of his partnership with Celso Fonseca, followed by "Paradiso" (1997) and "Juventude / Slow Motion Bossa Nova" (2002). This last one was considered one of the most important releases of the year, an unanimity by critics and public.
The key word of "Juventude/Slow motion bossa nova" is pleasure. Pleasure of those who made it and elegantly jest with a complex musical heritage as well as pleasure of those who enjoy it in a party or while driving around or making love. And also, aware of echoes of so many bossas in a horizon broader than the sun, the salt and the south. Totally fulfilled promise of happiness." (Paulo Roberto Pires, no.com)
Through Dubas Música, Ronaldo could continue his work as a producer, taking part and pride in doing every step of the production: from the choice of the artists and the repertoire to the art design and packaging of each product.
Whenever he has the chance, he tries to reveal new talents, as Jussara Silveira, with her masterpiece "Canções de Caymmi", Affonsinho, Wado, as well as he looks for rescuing forgotten, once recognized, masters of the Brazilian music, as Tito Madi, Meirelles, Wanda Sá.
Recently he has been working in some compilations of modern Brazilian music, as "Bossa Nova Lounge" and "Wave", Brazilian songs inspired by the sea.
Ronaldo Bastos¹ work is well represented in "Cais", an album produced by Milton Nascimento with versions exclusively recorded for the project by masters of the Brazilian music as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gal Costa, Chico Buarque, and Caetano Veloso. And also in "Colecionave Ronaldo Bastos", a choice made by the author himself of the versions of his songs he likes the most.
Celso Fonseca
Born in Rio, musician, composer, producer and arranger, Celso Fonseca was very young when he played his first chords, on a guitar borrowed from his uncle. On his 19th birthday, he decided to start studying music seriously and that was Celso¹s first step to definitely assume his career as a musician and to fall into Gilberto Gil¹s good grace, with whom he conquered Brazil and the world, becoming well-known as "Gil’s guitar player".
