Gigantic Ant is a four-piece instrumental rock band based out of Boston, Massachusetts. Forming in late 2009 while attending Berklee College of Music, the band's foundation lie with brothers Jared Howell (keys) and Donovan Edelstein (drums). Working with melodies that employed sudden rhythmic changes and odd meter, they sought out to write songs that would "tell stories without words." After putting up a flier at Berklee and citing influences like The Bad Plus and Frank Zappa, they found bassist Jason Ball, whose affinity for experimentation fit perfectly with the brothers' image of a new sound. They performed several gigs under the name "Piano Bastard" before agreeing that a guitarist was needed to complete the band. A friend introduced them to Balaji Mani, a talented multi-instrumentalist with a passion for improvisation that now lends to the unique chemistry of the foursome. They call themselves "Gigantic Ant."
