Brothers and guitarists Paul and Jason Ivey formed the Yankee Slickers in 2005 and, after several incarnations, have found their sound. The band hails from Jacksonville, FL, and is no stranger to a musical tradition that is characteristic to the area: soulful and spirited guitar playing. Dueling solos and interweaving lines that are ambitious and aggressive provide the core of the sound that is sometimes Southern boogie, often funky and bluesy, occasionally bombastic power rock, yet always musical and honest. Jason’s melodic vocal delivery, coupled with Paul’s instinctive and tasteful harmonies, make for a smooth sound over a dynamic rhythm section that reunites power and groove, reminiscent of the great rock music of the early 70s. The band is flipping the jamband scene on its’ head, emphasizing the song form but injecting a feeling of spontaneity and excitement that is becoming rare in pop music.
