Portland-based rock band The Dark Backward was founded by Jordan Daniel and Alex Marble, previous members of the Denver rock band Jane Lane. The Dark Backward plays original compositions of honest, emotional music that makes audiences want to move and exorcise their demons. The band plays rock and roll that incorporates all musical genres, including blues, jazz, punk, pop, and electronica. Musical influences include The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, and Talking Heads; and you might be able to liken their unique, massive sound to bands such as Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, and The Dear Hunter.

Daniel and Marble moved to Portland in July, 2010. Calling themselves "Benecio & Walker", they spent time composing and recording new songs and playing open mics before Warner, from Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Portland natives Afghan and Walsh joined the band. For the past months, the five members of The Dark Backward have rehearsed and developed a tight sound and a chemistry with each other that has them prepared to play their loud, proud, colorful, and in-your-face music live, and also head to the studio to record the band's debut album "The Sound It Makes".
