Matthew Bright, Jamie Purvis, Josh Patrick and Michael Poe - This is Standard Candle - A rock band - and it's as simple as that.

The band was started by singer/songwriter Josh Patrick and bassist Matthew Bright, who, after working together on a few demos, decided that they would concentrate their efforts on forming a band that celebrated the qualities that they held dear in music.

Raw emotion, melody and power soon began emerging from their songwriting sessions and the two knew they had something special. Shortly after the two began writing, guitar player Michael Poe was added to the lineup. Michael brought his own unique guitar style and flavor to the band as well as the experience of a road tested musician. Jamie Purvis left his Nashville based band to join Standard Candle in order to fill the void left by their previous drummer, bringing a rhythmic complexity that had previously been missing from the band.

With that, the current lineup of Standard Candle was born. Since the lineup was solidified in the summer of 2000, the band has played hundreds of shows throughout the Southeast, entertaining thousands, young and old. Their music is emotional and powerful, yet smooth and melodic, and has found a place in the hearts of the many that relate to it. Read more on Last.fm.
