Originated more than 20 years ago as a classical jazz quartet around trumpeter Laurent Blondiau. Today it has grown into a versatile collective with international ramifications. Feel free to call Mâäk Quintet one of the most avant-garde jazz formations in Belgium.

On the street or in a concert hall, acoustically or amplified, in front of a crowd or in an intimate circle... Mâäk stands for vitality, dynamics and musical freedom. Always within a clearly defined framework, the quintet's music sounds at times refined or fascinating, at other times magnetic or sultry.

The musicians are constantly trying out new sonorous, rhythmic and harmonic elements. As a result, their compositions, with orchestrations from duo to tutti, are often spontaneous and improvised. But always flawlessly orchestrated.

The Quintet also forms the backbone of larger ensembles. Thus Laurent and co. surround themselves with 11 other top musicians in the big band MikMâäk and since 2010 they have been performing with the Beninese family of musicians Anagoko as the voodoo ensemble Mâäk KOJO.
