Vertica was conceived in the spring of 2011, when James McCurley and Joshua Ruppert began writing music together. James would write an initial song, and then Joshua would work on the arrangement and structure along with additional parts.

This system proved effective, and they had an album's worth of music within the following months. With demos in hand, the band recruited Tyler Downey on guitar, and Meredith King on vocals. while Tyler brought heavier feel, and studio experience to mix, Meredith had a fresh perspective and powerful range to match. In early 2012, time was booked at Radiant Studios in Nashville, TN, and later that year Vertica laid down tracks for it's debut; Something for the Nerves.

Engineered & Mixed by Jerry Guidroz (Transatlantic, Neal Morse, Etc.), SFTN is a progressive and at times heavy attempt to take back the Alternative genre, and reclaim it as just that: the alternative.
