Upon his arrival home from New York in early 2007, and the culmination of his band, the Jungle People, Nick Lovell packed up home in Melbourne and followed a call to the sea. Setting up house in Ocean Grove, Nick started sketching his next record.
With the birth of his first child imminent, a change was coming. On the threshold of amazing journeys, complications and confusion can prevail. Instead, a beautiful simplicity shone through.
Nick’s demos embodied the evocative spirit and experiences of the past, drawing a line toward his future sound. The richness of his material, the maturity of his instrumentation, and the raw soul in his vocal, did not change: they blossomed.
Recorded and mixed by Robin Mai (John Butler Trio, Augie March, Tim Rogers), Christian Scallan (known for his work with David Bridie and My Friend The Chocolate Cake) and Michael Stangel, (The Veronicas, Shannon Noll, Vanessa Amorosi) Imaginary Boy possesses all the passion, honesty and energy that Nick’s previous incarnations had celebrated. The music of squalling waves, hard run journeys, warm breezes, wind whipped cliffs, backyard sun and coming home to love, this record documents Nick’s most truthful work so far.
A skillful, soulful and passionate artist, Nick delivers musical expression that’s thoughtful and unmistakably real, inviting contemplation, joy and a simple love of great music.
