The Ethers met through mutual friends and they immediately agreed about their philosophy of making music. Although their music is rooted in the traditional, jangly guitars, harmonies, and thumping rhythm, it also occupies the wide open spaces that channel the chaotic stillness, the bitter joy and the kinetic silence that only music can communicate. The songs deal with loss, love, youth, innocence, corruption, and the yearning for redemption. Many songwriters will tell you that they don't write the songs as much as listen for them. Songs will present themselves to the writer as if transmitted over radio waves. The live performance is the soul of The Ethers and the ritual celebration of this phenomenon.
